Ayurveda, the science of life and longevity epitomizes the harmonious blending of the body, mind and individual with the cosmos. This ancient therapy has an unbroken health tradition, spanning centuries, and has, besides trained practitioners, also a textual and scholarly backing. In a region rich in biodiversity, this herbal therapy has stood the test of time and proven itself nature’s panacea for all ailments of body and mind. Most ayurvedic medicines are made from herbs and prepared under the supervision of an expert physician using classical herbal prescriptions and have no side effects. At the heart of Ayurvedic philosophy is the belief that the human body is a microcosm of the universe, made up of the five elements of nature and governed by three forces -vata, pitta and kapha. Any disease is the manifestation of an imbalance of these forces –corrected through various rejuvenative (aims at total well being) and therapeutic programmes (ailment specific).

Kerala’s equable climate, natural abundance of forests and the cool monsoon season (June to November) are best suited for Ayurveda’s curative and restorative programmes. During monsoons, the atmosphere remains dust free and cool, opening the pores of the body and making it receptive to herbal oils and therapy.
